Juanita E. Orr Financial Gift for Future Teachers and Politicians

Due: Friday June 18, 2021

My great aunt Juanita E. Orr was a pioneer in the field of education and government. She attended Florida Agricultural and Mechanical University where she earned a BA in Elementary Education and New York University where she earned a Masters in Reading. Ms. Orr was a teacher for life who served from 1954-1992.

As a lifelong member of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority Inc. she continued to make an impact in the sphere of education and government as a political organizer who initiated the 1st AKA Day at the Capitol.

This financial gift is to honor her legacy and will support students who want to continue work in education, political science, or government.

Dr. Joseph A. Orr Financial Gift for Parents

Due: Friday June 18, 2021

My grandfather, Joseph A. Orr dedicated his life and career to students. As an expert in the field he earned a Doctorate in Education from Florida State University. In his role as a former administrator and Deputy Superintendent of Instruction in Palm Beach County, FL he attributed student success directly to parental involvement.

He instilled this value in my mother, Pamela Orr McKenzie who was actively involved in my academic career. Today, I would like to honor parents who are the first teachers.

This financial scholarship is a tribute to parent involvement. This gift is meant to defray the cost of college parents take on for their children.

Ardis Wake Orr Financial Gift for Teacher Self Care

My grandmother, Ardis Wake Orr, was one of my first teachers. As a caretaker she used her expertise in education to nurture me into the teacher I am today. When I think of her love, it brings me great peace. She served as an elementary educator for over 20 years, and I learned from her the priority of self-care.

I will award a teacher who is dedicated to the field, a yearlong subscription to Instructional Gym. The teacher will receive a box each month to support self-care.
